The Broomrape Family

Orobanchaceae is an interesting family that is mostly comprised of parasitic plants. Pedicularis canadensis is a hemiparasite, which means that it parasitizes the roots of other plants but can also produce its own chlorophyll. Another recognizable species in this family is the indian paintbrush, which is common out west.
