Lentibulariaceae
The Bladderwort Family
Lentibulariaceae is a favorite among the Woods and Water staff. It's not rare or hard to find, but it is carnivorous! Every species has bladders attached to either the leaves or the roots that suck in plankters to obtain nutrients. They can be floating or rooted, and they grow in almost every lake we've sampled. Within the family we have one genus - Utricularia. We've managed to collect all but one species present in Vilas county. Utricularia gibba is our most recent find!
