Lamiaceae

The Mint Family

Lamiaceae is a large family, with over 200 genera and around 7,000 species. Many species in Lamiaceae are aromatic, and are used as herbs or fragrances, as well as traditional medicines. Mint, oregano, lavender, basil, rosemary, sage, hyssop, thyme, catnip, skullcap, beebalm, and self-heal are all included in this family. A good way to identify members of this family are square stems.
