Hydrocharitaceae contains both freshwater and marine species and is common in aquaria! This has unfortunately led to invasive species being introduced due to the dumping of aquarium tanks. Hydrilla verticillata and Egeria densa are both threats to our lakes, and have been introduced elsewhere via the aquarium trade.
