capital campaign phase iii: maintenance expansion
The Capital Campaign construction began in 2021. Phase I featured winterization and renovation of the historic YCC Lodge, including new staff office space, as well as winterizing and adding bathrooms and showers to cabins. Phase II added Discovery Hall, a storage building and an improved site and parking plan in 2023 and 2024.
Phase III will include a new maintenance building, tools, and equipment to ensure long-term quality and sustainability at North Lakeland Discovery Center.
nldc proposed maintenance building
To meet the needs of our expanding operations, we are planning a new, larger, and more energy-efficient facility for the final stage of the Capital Campaign.
The current maintenance building was built in the early 90s as seasonal storage, and the cold storage building was built in 2024. The Capital Campaign Phase III maintenance building - 42'x50' building to include a maintenance shop, wood shop, office space and accessible bathroom with shower - will allow us to repurpose the current building for much needed storage.
The new building will:
- Provide much needed indoor shop space and offices for the maintenance team
- Allow for a rotation of large equipment and vehicles out of the elements
- Include proper ventilation in the shop areas
- Provide running water with full bathroom and eyewash station
- Include a drive-through vehicle bay area
- Provide more space for storage of tools and supplies
