organization we have many exciting opportunities ahead of
us. We have a new and improved volunteer program in order to
meet the needs of the Center and the interests and strengths
of our 
volunteers. Orientation sessions are set up to
familiarize volunteers with the facility and the programs.
If you have an interest in an area not listed here please
give us a call - we'd be happy to accommodate you. In return,
we ask for an honest commitment in order for us to operate
effectively and efficiently.

Opportunities at the Discovery Center
If you are interested in getting more involved here at The Center, please cast your eye over the following list of volunteer opportunities. If you see something that you find particularly interesting, give us a call and we will make note of your interest.
Intending volunteers should note that all volunteers are expected to attend an orientation session where roles and our expectations of one another are spelled out and clarified. We aim to make all volunteer experiences meaningful and incorporate as much potential for personal growth as possible. You tell us your needs, we’ll tell you ours and hopefully we can develop a personalized volunteer program that works for all of us.
There are always a myriad of changing tasks. Our “TO DO” list is constantly changing. Whether its cutting up a fallen tree, repairing a hinge, sharpening the teeth on our trail groomer, or helping us change our seasonal signage, your time is a gift that will always be appreciated, however infrequently you may give it. If you are unable to commit to a regular schedule, but may have an hour or two to give us here and there, you might want to consult our current list of things that need doing.

* Trail Grooming
What a great winter it has been for XC skiing! Which means lots of grooming. If you are comfortable on a snowmobile and can spare 1/2 a day here and there, we'd love to add your name to our grooming crew list. All training provided.
* Join the Office Crew
If computers and telephones don't scare you, we'd sure love to have your help in the office - greeting visitors, registering people for classes, handing out trail maps, and assisting staff with mailings. In late Winter and early Spring many of our regular helpers are out of town or otherwise unavailable - we could do with a couple more people on whom we can call. We are particularly in need of help on Thursdays and Fridays. Whether you can make a season-long comittment, or just want to be called occasionally to fill a temporary gap, we'd love to hear from you.
* Nature Center Host/Helper at Crystal Lake
In addition to running programs here in Manitowish Waters, we also deliver educational and interpretive programs through the summer for the DNR at their Crystal Lake Nature Center (off Hwy N between Boulder Jct & Sayner). If you'd like to help out there occasionally, please let us know.
* Add Your Name to Mark's Call-List for Occasional Maintenace Help
Spring is approaching - there will soon be LOTS to do. Building & Grounds Coordinator, Mark Charon continues to build a list of folk he can call on an "as needed" basis for specific help as tasks arise. If you can tell the difference between the working end and the holding end of hammer, and have an interest in helping Mark maintain our buildings, equipment and grounds, please give us a call, or shoot an email to the link at the bottom of this page. We'll let Mark know of your expression of interest and then he can call you to ascertain your particular interests, skills and experience.

Most of the following volunteer positions will be summer-long. That does not mean you have to commit for the entire summer, but we would prefer volunteers to
commit to at least three sessions - obviously the more sessions you can do, the more comfortable you will be in your role.
