Celebrate Wolf Awareness Week 2008!
October 12-18
Wolf Awareness Week is a time to recognize the importance of wolves as part of our natural systems. Each year, governors around the country proclaim the third week of October as Wolf Awareness Week. For Wolf Awareness Week 2008 Timber Wolf Alliance is producing one educational poster which will be distributed to schools, libraries, nature centers and to interested citizens. Over fifty federal, state and tribal agencies and non-profit organizations from around the country from Alaska to Maine sponsor these materials and will distribute them to places and people, blanketing their own communities with information about wolves.
This year, Timber Wolf Alliance highlights the artwork of Robert Bateman with his piece “ New Territory ”.
Robert Bateman’s realistic painting style, featuring wildlife in its habitat, encourages the viewer to examine the natural world. His art reflects his commitment to ecology. Besides being one of Canada ’s best-known artists, he is a naturalist, recognized by the Audubon Society as one of the 20th century’s “heroes of conservation.” He is a spokesman for many environmental and preservation issues, using his art to raise millions of dollars for these causes. He has been the subject of numerous books and films. His honors and awards are numerous including Officer of the Order of Canada .
