Internships

Internships with the North Lakeland Discovery Center are a great way for college and university students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in active stewardship of our natural resources.  

We offer many opportunities for our interns to explore the fields of their study and develop skills that will help them in their careers.  Successful candidates must be able to communicate effectively, work independently and be sincerely invested in our mission to facilitate connections between people and nature.

We are currently hiring for four internship positions for the 2012 summer season.  

  • Environmental Education Intern: works primarily with youth programs, occasionally leads canoe/kayak trips
  • Birds and Wildlife Intern: works primarily with leading adult wildlife programs including wolves, bats and birds
  • Waters Intern: works mainly with educating the public on AIS and lake level monitoring, occasionally leads canoe/kayak trips and youth programs
  • Visitor Experience Intern: works primarily with our drop-in visitors, leads interpretive trail hikes and serves as a liaison with groups

Hours: 40 hours/ week. Flexible work week including weekends.

Length of Service: 12 weeks, approximately (May 29 – August 24)

Compensation: $800 monthly salary + free shared offsite intern housing.
